Delta Police confirm killing of DSP

The Delta State Police command has confirmed that DSP Sunday Okoebor, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, was killed by suspected armed robbers at his home in Asaba, the state capital.

The command also dismissed rumours circulating that its PPRO was killed during the attack, and advised the public to ignore them.

Okoebor was shot in the head by suspected armed robbers who entered his apartment pretending to be EFCC Operatives, and realized he was a Police officer.

The PPRO, Mr. Bright Edafe, said in a statement that the command “is aware of a false viral WhatsApp post claiming that the PPRO Delta State command was killed at his home. The command wants to refute this fake news completely and advises the public to disregard it.

“To clear any doubt and set the record straight, the Command wants to state that, on 28/11/2023 at about 3:30 am, DSP Sunday Okoebor, who was part of the Command X-Squad, was killed at his home.

“The suspected armed robbers who killed the late officer entered his home pretending to be EFCC Operatives and shot him in the head when they found out he was a Police officer.

“The Commissioner of Police Delta State immediately sent tactical teams to hunt down the suspects. At about 0630 hours of the same day, the backup team consisting of the Command’s Joint Security Outfit A.K.A Operation Delta Hawk caught eight suspects who admitted to the crime and the killing of the late police officer.

“The Commissioner of Police CP Wale Abass, on behalf of the command, expresses his condolences to the family of the late officer and promises them justice.

“The public is advised to stop spreading false news and to contact the command for verification before going to the media.
