Piers Morgan has stepped to Cristiano Ronaldo's defense after Portugal's opening World Cup match. The British broadcaster instead criticized Bruno Fernandes for his display against DR Congo.
Portugal drew 1-1 with DR Congo in their tournament opener on Monday. Morgan told Sports Uncensored that Fernandes, not Ronaldo, struggled most during the game.
"Have you watched the Portugal game?" Morgan asked rhetorically during the interview. "I thought the one who had the really bad game was Bruno Fernandes."
He noted that the Manchester United midfielder barely managed a decent touch throughout. Fernandes' performance paled in comparison to Ronaldo's, according to Morgan's assessment.
Ronaldo operated as a central striker rather than his usual winger role. Morgan acknowledged that the Portugal captain needed better service from teammates to be effective.
"He did not get the service," Morgan stressed about Ronaldo's situation on the pitch. Morgan also mentioned that Declan Rice deserved recognition as the Premier League's best player this season.
