Minister Wike Issues Fresh Warning to Employers in Abuja Over Tax

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has issued a fresh warning to employers in Abuja regarding tax compliance.

This comes as part of the government’s efforts to boost revenue in the capital city.

According to the Federal Capital Territory Internal Revenue Service (FCT-IRS), all employers in the FCT are required to file their 2023 annual returns before January 31, 2024.

Failure to comply with this deadline may result in penalties as stipulated in the Personal Income Tax Act (PITA) 2011 (as amended).

The FCT-IRS has also urged banks and other financial institutions to strictly implement the Personal Income Tax and the FCT Internal Revenue Service Act 2015.

This means that services may be denied to customers without proper tax clearance. Defaulters of the income tax law risk a three-year jail term under the watchful eye of Minister Wike.

Minister Wike has also revoked 21 plots of land in the Central Business District (CBD) of Abuja due to continued contravention of the terms of development of the Right of Occupancy.

This move is seen as a step towards ensuring proper development and utilization of land resources in the capital city.
