Soldiers from 6 Brigade Nigerian Army operating under Operation Whirl Stroke have killed two suspected bandits in Taraba State. The operation took place in the Sarkin Kudu area of Ibi Local Government Area.
Acting Assistant Director for Army Public Relations Lieutenant Umar Muhammad disclosed the development in a statement on Thursday. Intelligence had tipped off troops about bandit activities near Dooshima District on May 18, 2026.
During the firefight, troops neutralized two of the suspects. Several others fled the scene with gunshot injuries.
Soldiers recovered an AK-47 rifle and a spare magazine from the location. They also found one locally made pistol among the items seized.
Three mobile phones and one Android device were taken into custody. Two charm vests and other personal belongings were also found at the hideout.
Military authorities will hand over all recovered items to relevant agencies for investigation. Brigadier General Chukwuemeka Michael Akaliro, the 6 Brigade commander, praised his troops for their swift action.
He noted their bravery and tactical professionalism during the encounter. The operation represents ongoing efforts to flush out armed criminals from the region.
