LASG Advocates for Compliance with Elevator Safety Standards to Prevent Accidents

The Lagos State Government, through the Ministry of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Relations, in collaboration with the Lagos State Safety Commission and the Lagos State Lifts and Vertical Transportation Association, has emphasized the importance of adhering to elevator safety standards to prevent negative occurrences in the built industries.

This call for compliance came after an elevator crash led to the death of a medical doctor, Dr. Vwaere Diaso, at the General Hospital in Odan, Lagos Island.

To address the issue, a stakeholders’ meeting was held, and the resolution was to ensure strict adherence to safety standards in the elevator and vertical transportation sector.

The Director General of the Lagos Safety Commission, Lanre Mojola, stated that the equipment safety workshop for 2024, with the theme ‘Safety Compliance in the Elevator and Vertical Equipment Industry,’ was organized to enhance safety standards and foster compliance within the sector.

Olugbenga Oyerinde, the Commissioner for Special Duties and Intergovernmental Relations, also emphasized the importance of a strong occupational safety and health culture in preventing accidents, injuries, and fatalities while safeguarding the future success and growth of businesses.

The Lagos State Government’s efforts to ensure compliance with elevator safety standards is a step in the right direction to prevent accidents and promote a safe working environment.

It is crucial for all stakeholders in the built industries to prioritize safety and adhere to the standards set by the government to ensure the well-being of employees and the general public.
