Lagos State Government Pays Out N138.1 Billion to 34,000+ Retirees

In a significant development for pensioners in Lagos State, the Lagos State Government has announced that it has disbursed a total of N138.1 billion as accrued pension rights to 34,178 retirees since the introduction of the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS) in 2007.

This was revealed by the Lagos State Pension Commission (LASPEC) in a recent statement.

The Director-General of LASPEC, Mrs. Folashade Onanuga, stated that the government has remained committed to the welfare of its retirees and has consistently made payments to them.

She also mentioned that the government has paid N138.1 billion to 34,178 retirees from May 2015 to date, while 14,645 retirees have received accrued pension rights of N48.1 billion from August 2015 to date.

Mrs. Onanuga further added that the government is working on a strategy to ensure that retirees receive their entitlements without delay, as they have worked hard for the state and deserve to be rewarded for their efforts.

She also urged retirees to be patient and not to fall prey to fraudsters who may try to take advantage of them.
