Lagos State Government Issues Ultimatum to Squatters and Illegal Motor Parks in Obalende

The Lagos State government has given a four-day ultimatum to squatters and illegal motor park operators at Obalende to vacate the area or face consequences.

The Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, and his transportation colleague, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, made this announcement on Sunday, February 11, after inspecting the area.

The ultimatum comes as part of the government’s efforts to maintain a clean and safe environment.

The officials emphasized that all shanties and their dwellers, traders, squatters, cattle rearers, and abandoned vehicles under the Obalende bridge must vacate the area by Thursday afternoon.

Enforcement of this order will begin on Friday morning.

The government has also directed commercial vehicle operators who have turned the main roads in Obalende into parking lots to relocate to the various parks provided for them.

In the past two weeks, the Lagos State government has already commenced cleanup activities at Ijora, Apongbon, and Ebute Ero under the bridge.

Commissioner Tokunbo Wahab expressed his satisfaction with the level of compliance at these locations and stressed that the government is committed to sustaining the clean and safe environment.

Once the squatters have been removed, the Lagos State Parks and Gardens Agency (LASPARK) will move in to commence work on the beautification and landscaping of Obalende, Apongbon, and Ebute Ero under the bridge.

The clean-up campaign will eventually extend to other bridges throughout the state.

As the Lagos State government takes decisive action to address the issue of illegal motor parks and squatting in Obalende, residents and visitors can look forward to a more pleasant and secure environment in the near future.
