Labour Party Crisis: NWC Takes Action Against National Treasurer

In a recent development within the Labour Party, the National Working Committee has taken decisive action to address the ongoing crisis involving the National Treasurer, Mrs. Oluchi Okpara.

The NWC has set up a disciplinary committee to investigate allegations of misconduct and financial impropriety that have brought the party into disrepute.

The controversy began when Okpara publicly accused the party’s National Chairman, Julius Abure, of failing to account for more than N3.5 billion in funds raised from the sale of nomination and expression of interest forms for the 2023 general elections.

She also made other serious allegations against Abure, which have caused significant concern among party members.

In response, the NWC convened an emergency meeting on Tuesday to discuss the matter. The committee unanimously agreed to establish a disciplinary panel to look into the allegations and determine the appropriate course of action.

In a statement released by the National Publicity Secretary, Obiora Ifoh, the party extended an invitation to the National Treasurer to appear before the disciplinary committee on Wednesday, February 14, 2024, at 10 a.m.

The statement emphasized that the party leadership is committed to resolving the issue and urged party members to remain patient during this time.

As the Labour Party faces this internal crisis, the focus remains on ensuring transparency and accountability within the organization.

The investigation will hopefully shed light on the allegations and provide a clear path forward for the party as it navigates this challenging period.
