Kwara State Government Resolves Long-Standing Salary Arrears for Teachers and Local Workers

Kwara State Government has recently made a significant stride in addressing the long-standing issue of salary arrears for State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) teachers and local government workers.

The government has successfully cleared the inherited debts amounting to a staggering N3 billion, which has been a major concern for the affected employees since 2016.

The government’s commitment to resolving this issue is evident from the allocation meeting figures, which show a substantial amount of N1,297,389,165.83 being allocated to clear the balance of the arrears owed to the SUBEB teachers.

Additionally, N1,622,673,992.12 was apportioned to settle the balance of the arrears for local government workers from the previous administration.

Since 2020, the Kwara State Government has spent over N5.5 billion to address the salary arrears of SUBEB teachers, local government workers, and local government pensioners.

This impressive sum demonstrates the government’s dedication to fulfilling its financial obligations to these vital public service sectors.

In a further display of commitment, the government has approved cash-backing for the implementation of the 2022 promotion for teaching and non-teaching staff of the SUBEB.

This will undoubtedly boost morale and provide much-needed financial relief to the affected employees.

With the final settlement of the SUBEB and local government salary arrears, the persistent agitation for payment dating back to 2016-2019 has finally come to an end.

This resolution is a testament to the government’s determination to prioritize the welfare of its workforce and ensure a stable and sustainable educational system in the state.

The Kwara State Government’s resolution of the salary arrears issue for teachers and local government workers marks a significant milestone in the state’s financial management and sets the stage for a more prosperous future for its citizens.
