Kwara Govt Urges IBEDC to Enhance Service Delivery, Alleviate Residents’ Hardships

The Kwara State Government has urged the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) to improve its current service delivery to alleviate the hardships faced by residents in the state.

The call was made during a courtesy visit by the Kwara State Regional Head, IBEDC, Toyin Akinyosoye, and his team to the Kwara Commissioner for Energy, AbdulAzeez AbdulGaniy.

During the meeting, the commissioner stressed the need for better service because of numerous complaints from communities about outrageous bills, unavailability of electricity, and the negative impact on businesses.

The Director of Electrical Engineering, Anthony Alago, also highlighted the state government’s efforts to improve the well-being of residents through infrastructure development, including the provision of transformers to communities that are yet to be connected to the national grid by IBEDC.

The newly deployed Regional Head of IBEDC, Toyin Akinyosoye, commended the state government for its collaboration with the company and assured that the existing network structure would be strengthened.

He also promised immediate action on some issues, such as metering in the state.

With the recent passage of the Electricity Act, which empowers states to generate, transmit, and distribute electricity, there is potential for increased competition in the energy sector among stakeholders.

This development could lead to further improvements in service delivery and infrastructure in Kwara State.
