Abdulaziz Umar will hang for murder, a Kano High Court has ruled. Justice Zuwaira Yusuf found him guilty of killing Mubarak Salisu on October 1, 2020.

Umar, from Fagge Quarters in Kano, faced two separate charges in the case. Armed robbery and culpable homicide were the offences before the court.

The judge noted that prosecutors had proven their case beyond all doubt. "I sentence the convict to life imprisonment for robbery and death by hanging for culpable homicide," Justice Yusuf announced.

Prosecution lawyer Aisha Salisu told the court what happened that Independence Day. Umar attacked Salisu with a knife at Race Course in Badawa Layout, she explained.

He stabbed the victim in the stomach and hand, causing fatal injuries. During the same incident, Umar stole Salisu's Samsung phone.

Five prosecution witnesses testified against the defendant throughout the trial. Documents and physical evidence supported their accounts of the October attack.

Umar's defence team denied the allegations completely. Ya'u Abdullahi, his lawyer, put him on the stand to testify.

Court records show the charges violated Sections 298 and 221 of the Penal Code. Both sections carry serious penalties under Nigerian law.
