Nigerian troops and US forces have eliminated more than 20 fighters from the Islamic State West Africa Province in a joint air operation. The Defence Headquarters announced the strikes on Monday.

The coordinated attack targeted the Metele area in the North-East. Intelligence had indicated terrorist elements were gathering there.

Maj.-Gen. Samaila Uba, the Defence Information Director, disclosed the operation's details.

He said the military acted on intelligence about militant movements in the region.

According to the statement, ISWAP fighters were regrouping when the strikes began. Military operatives observed their convergence before launching the assault.

The operation forms part of Nigeria's broader counter-insurgency strategy in the North-East. Officials described it as a major victory against terrorist networks.

The joint effort aims to dismantle insurgent organisations and eliminate safe havens. Nigerian and American forces are committed to sustained operations in the region.

Uba stressed that no terrorist will find refuge anywhere in Nigeria. He reiterated the military's determination to protect the nation's sovereignty.

Future operations will focus on disrupting militant movements across the North-East. The armed forces plan to prevent terrorists from regrouping.

This latest action reflects deepening security cooperation between Abuja and Washington. Recent months have seen increased joint counterterrorism efforts in the theatre.

The military said it'll maintain the pressure on terror groups. Degrading insurgent capabilities remains a top priority for both nations.
