The Executive Chairman of Ughelli North Local Government Council, Olorogun Jaro Movudu Egbo, has called on the people of Orogun Kingdom to remain united and supportive of constituted authorities to ensure peace, stability, and sustainable development in the area.
Olorogun Egbo appealed on Tuesday while receiving a high-powered delegation from Orogun Kingdom led by the kingdom’s President-General, Chief Barr. Opone, at the Ughelli North Council Secretariat.
The delegation visited the council chairman to formally notify him of the passing of the Son of the Okparuku of Orogun Kingdom, Late Prince Dominic Emoghene, and to officially present Chief Bennett Adafe as the new Son of Okparuku and successor to the late traditional ruler’s son.
Speaking during the visit, Olorogun Egbo described Orogun Kingdom as a respected and unique traditional institution with a well-organised system of governance recognised under the Traditional Rulers and Chiefs Edict of 1979.
He recalled his support for the late Prince Dominic during disputes surrounding the traditional institution, stressing that the office of the Son of Okparuku remains sacred and highly revered in Orogun Kingdom.
“I stood firmly by the late Prince Dominic when attempts were made to suspend him because suspending the Son of Okparuku is equivalent to suspending the Okparuku himself. The stool is sacred and must be respected,” the chairman stated.
The council boss further disclosed that he had consistently advised the late Prince Dominic to manage the kingdom's affairs with wisdom, inclusiveness, and tolerance during periods of tension in the community.
Addressing the newly installed Son of Okparuku, Chief Bennett Adafe, Egbo urged him to embrace all interests within the kingdom and promote peace, unity, and development in the discharge of his responsibilities.
He also clarified that he was not opposed to anyone aspiring to occupy the royal stool in Orogun, provided all legal and traditional procedures are duly followed.
“The government operates strictly within the confines of the law. The only traditional authority officially recognised by government in Orogun is the Okparuku stool,” he added.
Barr. Egbo further appealed to the people of Orogun Kingdom to continue supporting the administration of President Bola Tinubu and Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, as well as candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC), in future elections.
Earlier, a member of the delegation, Chief Edevie, said the visit was also aimed at appreciating the council chairman for his continued support for Orogun Kingdom, particularly the approval for the establishment of a police station in the community and the appointment of several sons and daughters of the kingdom into positions within his administration.
Also speaking, the President-General of Orogun Kingdom, Chief Barr. Opone, commended Barr. Egbo, for his unwavering support and warm reception, urged the people of the kingdom to remain united and cooperative with all levels of government in the interest of development and progress.
