JAMB Assures Candidates: Rescheduling for Glitches, Warns Against Fraudsters

JAMB, the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, has recently addressed issues regarding the glitches experienced by candidates during the 2024 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

In response to the concerns, JAMB Registrar Prof. Ishaq Oloyede has assured affected candidates that they will be rescheduled for the examination.

This assurance comes as part of JAMB’s efforts to maintain a fair and smooth examination process for all candidates.

As JAMB continues to monitor the situation closely, Prof. Oloyede has revealed that only one centre has been reported to have encountered issues so far.

However, he anticipates that by the end of the day, around 10 percent of the centres may experience problems due to varying levels of development across different regions.

In cases where sessions fail due to technical issues, candidates will be rescheduled for later sessions or even the following day to ensure they have a fair opportunity to complete their exams.

In addition to addressing the concerns about technical glitches, JAMB has also taken a strong stance against fraudsters.

The board has noticed that some candidates have been sharing their details with fraudsters and has warned them against doing so.

JAMB has been working closely with security agencies to apprehend those involved in fraudulent activities, with the Inspector-General of Police, the director-general of the State Secret Service (SSS), the director-general of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corp, and the Nigerian Police Force National CyberCrime Centre (NPF-NCC) providing valuable support.

Prof. Oloyede has also expressed his displeasure over the premature awarding of scholarships to UTME best-performing candidates.

He believes that other criteria, such as the quality of O Level results, Post-UTME scores, and additional tests for specific institutions, should be considered before ranking candidates.

This holistic approach ensures that the most deserving candidates are recognized and awarded scholarships, rather than solely focusing on UTME scores.

As the 2024 UTME continues, JAMB remains committed to ensuring a seamless and fair examination process for all candidates.

By addressing technical glitches and warning against fraudulent activities, the board aims to maintain the integrity of the examination and provide equal opportunities for all candidates.
