JAMB and Police Caution UTME Candidates Against Fake Websites, Fraudulent Practices

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) and the Nigeria Police Force have issued a joint warning to candidates preparing for the 2024 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) against patronising fake websites.

The two bodies cautioned that these fraudulent websites are designed to deceive candidates and compromise the integrity of the examination process.

At a recent news conference in Abuja, the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, stated that there are several fake websites created by unscrupulous individuals with the intention of misleading candidates.

He urged candidates to be cautious and only print their UTME Notification Slips from the board’s official website: www.jamb.gov.ng (http://www.jamb.gov.ng).

The police have reiterated their readiness to safeguard the interests of candidates and maintain the integrity of the examination process.

They have also warned candidates against visiting websites offering ‘live’ questions and answers, as accessing such materials is prohibited.

The JAMB spokesperson, Dr Fabian Benjamin, emphasized that the board is committed to playing its role in ensuring a fair and transparent examination process.

He urged candidates to ignore unsolicited messages, which are likely to be from fraudsters aiming to deceive and defraud them.

The Nigeria Police Force National Cyber Crime Centre (NPF-NCCC) is actively partnering with JAMB to address online scam-related issues seamlessly.

The Inspector General of Police has directed the NPF-NCCC to go after scammers and fraudsters who engage in cyber-related crimes and create phishing sites/portals.

The 2024 UTME is scheduled to commence on Friday, April 19, and end on April 29. Candidates are advised to print their UTME Notification Slips before the commencement of the examination and ensure they are well-prepared for the assessment.

This warning from JAMB and the police serves as a reminder to candidates to remain vigilant and informed about the risks associated with fraudulent websites and practices during the examination period.
