Iwuanyanwu reveals Ohanaeze’s plan to meet with Tinubu over Kanu’s release

Ohanaeze Ndigbo, the apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, has announced its plan to meet with President Bola Tinubu over the detention of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

The President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, disclosed this on Friday when he led a delegation of Igbo leaders to visit the traditional ruler of the Isiama ancient kingdom in Isiala-Mbano LGA of Imo State, Eze Dr. Oliver Ohanwe.

Iwuanyanwu said that Ohanaeze Ndigbo was working tirelessly to secure the release of Kanu, who was re-arrested by Interpol in June and extradited to Nigeria to face treason charges.

He said that Kanu’s release would restore peace and stability in Igboland, which has witnessed a series of attacks on security formations and public properties by suspected IPOB members and their armed wing, the Eastern Security Network (ESN).

He also appealed to the federal government to dialogue with IPOB and address the grievances of the Igbo people, whom he said were marginalised and oppressed in Nigeria.

“We are going to meet with President Tinubu very soon to discuss the issue of Nnamdi Kanu and other matters affecting the Igbo nation. We believe that Tinubu is a man of peace and justice who will listen to our plea and intervene in this matter. There must be peace and stability in Igboland. The immediate release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu will definitely restore sanity,” he said.

The Chief Host of the delegation, Eze Dr. Oliver Ohanwe, thanked Iwuanyanwu for his leadership and efforts to unite the Igbo people and protect their interests.

He also expressed his support for the release of Kanu and urged the federal government to respect his fundamental human rights and grant him a fair trial.
