The Chairman of Isoko South Local Government Area in Delta State, Comrade Ovoke Friday Warri, has assured primary school teachers that their welfare will remain a top priority despite the financial constraints brought on by the challenging economic environment.

Advocate.ng reports that during a meeting on Wednesday with the leadership of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Isoko South wing, held in his office, Comrade Warri emphasized the vital role that teachers play in the transformation of the education sector and society at large through the impartation of good morals.

The council chairman highlighted the importance of rewarding teachers during their lifetime, stressing that they should not be denied their rightful wages. He reaffirmed his administration's commitment to the timely and regular payment of teachers' salaries.

Expressing appreciation for the dedication and sacrifices of teachers in the local government area, Warri promised that his administration would reciprocate by ensuring the prompt payment of salaries and improving infrastructure and learning materials in public schools.

“This administration has robust plans for the education sector, particularly in agriculture. We intend to partner with teachers to address agricultural issues in our schools and provide the necessary instructional materials. Despite facing challenges, we will not delay the payment of your salaries. Teachers' welfare will always be a priority,” Warri stated.

Earlier, the NUT Chairman for Isoko South, Daniel Odhomo, outlined several challenges facing the union and appealed for support from the local government. He commended Warri for his interest in education and the prompt payment of last month's salary to primary school teachers.

Odhomo also requested the chairman's assistance in several areas, including the constitution of an education board for Isoko South, the provision of accurate pay slips, the payment of promotion arrears, ensuring parity between private and government school teachers, and addressing dilapidated primary school buildings.

The NUT leadership assured the council chairman of their continued dedication to elevating the local government's standing in the field of education within the state.
In a related development, Comrade Warri announced the immediate dissolution of all revenue committees in the local government following a closed-door meeting with various revenue bodies on Wednesday.

He directed all members of the dissolved committees to hand over all council properties in their possession immediately and advised business owners and residents of Isoko South who have not yet met their 2024 revenue obligations to await further notice.
