Chairman of Isoko South Local Government Area, Delta State, Comrade Friday Ovoke Warri, has revealed that he declined staying in hotels upon assuming office due to the deplorable state of the council chairman’s official residence, prioritizing financial prudence and accountability instead.

Warri, who spoke on Monday during the commissioning of the remodeled official residence and the launch of the council’s new logo, described the state of the chairman’s quarters as shocking. "After my inauguration by Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, I visited the chairman’s residence and was appalled by its condition. You wouldn’t even allow your pets to stay there. Immediately, I commenced the remodeling, and today, we are here to commission a befitting and habitable quarters for the chairman of Isoko South," he stated.

Highlighting his administration’s strides, Warri noted that security enhancement was one of their first initiatives, working with relevant agencies to ensure Isoko South remains safe. He also emphasized ongoing road rehabilitation efforts, explaining that although most roads in the area are state-owned, they primarily serve the local people. "We will not ignore the poor state of these roads. Palliative measures will continue to ease the burden on road users," he assured.

Warri further stated that stable solar electricity had been installed at both the council secretariat and the chairman’s residence, ensuring an uninterrupted power supply. He also announced the forthcoming launch of an official council website designed to connect artisans and professionals with job opportunities, fostering economic engagement and bringing governance closer to the people.

Commissioning the remodeled residence, Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Emomotimi Dennis Guwor, commended Warri for complementing the state government’s efforts in executing the M.O.R.E. Agenda. He advised the chairman to consult widely before embarking on projects and to ensure quality execution.

Guwor reassured the people of Isoko South of Governor Oborevwori’s commitment to equitable project distribution, highlighting the transformation of the Asaba-Ughelli motorway. He also affirmed that the 29 members of the state House of Assembly were firmly behind the governor ahead of the 2027 elections.

Unveiling the official logo of Isoko South, which symbolizes the cultural heritage, agricultural strength, and educational legacy of the Isoko people, Commissioner for Local Government Affairs, Kelly Penawou, praised Warri’s vision and dedication to elevating the local government’s development.
