Interior Minister Faces CCB Probe Over Alleged N438m Contract Scandal

Delays And Postponed CCB Appearance Amid Controversy

The Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) has summoned Nigeria’s Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, to appear before it on January 16, 2024.

The minister is being investigated for his alleged involvement in a N438m contract scandal with the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, led by the recently suspended Minister Betta Edu.

The controversy stems from a contract awarded to New Planet Projects Limited, a company reportedly owned by Tunji-Ojo.

The company allegedly received a payment of N438.1m for “consultancy services” from the humanitarian ministry.

This revelation has sparked a heated debate on social media, with many Nigerians calling for a thorough investigation into the matter.

In response to the allegations, the minister has denied any involvement in the day-to-day operations of the company, claiming he resigned from his directorship in 2019 when he was first elected as a lawmaker.

He also stated that he only serves as a shareholder and is not involved in the company’s bidding or contract pursuits.

The opposition party, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), has called for the minister’s immediate suspension, citing the need for an unbiased investigation into the matter.

They argue that his continued presence in office could potentially undermine the integrity of the investigation.

As the situation unfolds, the Nigerian public is left to wonder about the implications of this scandal on the current administration and the future of the Ministry of Interior.
