Governor of Delta State, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, assured on Wednesday that his administration is diligently working to leave a lasting and exceptional legacy for future generations. He emphasized that his efforts are driven by a desire to please God, not people.
Governor Oborevwori made this statement while hosting the President of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN), Bishop Wale Oke, and his delegation at Government House, Asaba.
The governor highlighted the significant strides his administration has made in infrastructure development and human capital enhancement across the state. He expressed optimism that more progress would be achieved during his tenure.
"We have accomplished a lot, but challenges remain, as there is still hunger. However, during the protests, Delta State remained peaceful, largely due to the power of prayer," he said.
Governor Oborevwori stressed his commitment to serving the people, aiming to leave behind a record of achievements that will be remembered long after his tenure. "I am here to serve the people and leave a legacy they will look back on with pride. I am not here to seek approval from men, but to do God's will," he stated.
He also called for prayers for sustained peace in Delta State, emphasizing that peace is crucial for development. "Before you leave, pray for lasting peace in Delta State because peace is the foundation of development," he added.
The governor also praised Bishop Oke and the PFN for their prayers and support during his election, reiterating that the peaceful nature of the state during the protests was a result of the church's intercession.
"As the President of the PFN, you are like a father to us in Nigeria. We recognize your influence as a prayer warrior, and I know you are praying for our nation," Oborevwori said. "We, in positions of authority, need prayers to succeed. Your prayers will guide us to make the right decisions at all times."
Oborevwori concluded by recounting his political journey, which involved winning 21 out of the 25 Local Government Areas and overcoming 38 court cases. He attributed his success to divine intervention and sought further prayers for security, progress, and peace.
Earlier, PFN National President Bishop Wale Oke commended the governor's achievements in Delta State. He noted that their visit was in accordance with biblical injunctions, and they were in the state for the dedication of the Delta PFN Secretariat, where prayers would be offered for continued peace and development.
Bishop Oke highlighted that the Delta PFN Secretariat is the largest in the country and expressed his gratitude to the state government for its role in realizing this project. He also lauded Governor Oborevwori's contributions to the state's growth and development.
