The Chairman of Ika South Local Government, Engr. Jerry Ehiwarior, officially launched the construction of Abude Street in Agbor metropolis on Thursday, marking the beginning of a long-awaited infrastructure project for the area.
Residents of Abude Street expressed their joy and relief over the commencement of the road construction, describing it as a positive turning point after years of neglect. The flag-off ceremony was attended by an enthusiastic crowd, including local landlords, who welcomed the development.
Following the ceremony, Engr. Ehiwarior conducted an inspection of the ongoing work and received assurances from the contractor, Chioz Engineering Services Limited, that high-quality materials would be used and the project would be delivered on time.
Speaking to the press, the Chairman emphasized the importance of the project for boosting socio-economic activities in the area. "When completed, this street will provide easy access to other streets, thereby enhancing economic activities in Agbor Metropolis as a whole," he said.
Engr. Ehiwarior highlighted the inclusion of culverts on both sides of the street, with three discharge points for runoff water, to prevent erosion and ensure durability. "We are committed to building roads that last, and proper drainage is a key part of that," he added.
The Chairman also took the opportunity to thank the people of Ika South for their continued support since he assumed office less than two months ago. He reassured them that his administration would remain dedicated to fulfilling all campaign promises.
He urged local residents to take responsibility for safeguarding government projects in their communities, saying, "Our people must see themselves as stakeholders and partners in building a better and more developed Ika South. We must ensure that public infrastructure is protected for the benefit of everyone."
The project, which covers over a kilometer and ends at Imudia Street, is one of the roads in Agbor metropolis that had not yet been tarred. The construction contract, awarded under the leadership of Engr. Ehiwarior, is expected to be completed within a few months.
