Group urges Nigerians to ignore PEGASSAN’s call for the removal Chevron MD

The Youths of Chevron Host Communities of Nigeria has called on Nigerians to ignore the call by Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PEGASSAN) on removal of the Chairman and Managing Director of Chevron Nigeria Limited, Mr Jeffrey Ewing.

The group described the call as not only selfish but self-serving,  adding such call was not in the interest of host communities and Nigeria.

The group rising from an emergency meeting held in Effurun, Delta State, its President, Comrade William Emuakpor  who spoke with journalists expressed fear that even though they are not in support of the sacking of about 30 workers by CNL Management, he  stressed that some of the demands of PEGASSAN are unrealistic and as such it is tantamount to blackmail.

While calling on the general public to ignore the call for the removal of Mr Jeffrey Ewing’s, they  threaten that any attempt by PEGASSAN Chevron Branch to go ahead with its plan protest, they will be left with no other option but to mobilize youths from Chevron offshore and onshore host communities to shut down its operations.

 The group Secretary,  Hon. Wuruyai Osuru  stated that Ewing as the CMD have consistently created a balance in the policy making process of CNL as it regards host communities and the Nigerian workers.

He  expressed  fear that a call for the removal of Jeffrey Ewing will further monopolize the already polarised Chevron system against its host communities and the Niger Delta indigenes.

He buttressed his fear on the bases that indigenes of the host communities of Chevron Nig. Ltd.,  who have rising to management level, but have been placed on glass ceilinged, adding that this will create room for none Niger Delta top management staff to undermine their colleagues who indigenes of their his communities.

 He alleged further that  most Niger Delta indigenes that went for the Ogere and were successful were arbitrarily denied opportunity to work in the multinational oil giant.

Some of other Niger Delta youth leader in the meeting include, Mr Chris Wuruyai, President of Gbaramatu Youth Association who threw his support for the group.
