Governor Umo Eno Takes Action to Resolve Communal Clash in Akwa Ibom

Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State has taken decisive steps to address the ongoing communal clash between Ibeno, Eket, and Esit Eket Local Government Areas.

The Governor, accompanied by top government functionaries and security commanders, visited the affected areas to assess the damage and send a strong message to those responsible for the conflict.

During his visit, Governor Umo Eno made it clear that the government has credible intelligence on the individuals sponsoring the violence and warned them to cease their actions immediately.

He emphasized that the government will not hesitate to take action against those who continue to fan the flames of disunity, stating that “we are leaders and we cannot be sponsoring young people to take the laws into their hands. We will not allow it.”

The Governor also called on the transition chairmen of the three local government areas to maintain law and order in their respective domains, warning that failure to do so would result in their immediate removal.

Addressing the main cause of the conflict, Governor Umo Eno declared that the Stubbs Creek Forest Reserve belongs to the government and not to any particular community.

He emphasized the need to protect the reserve as a source of carbon credits and potential job opportunities for the local youth.

The Governor also visited the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital to comfort the victims of the communal clash and promised that security agencies would continue to ensure law and order in the affected areas.

While the issue of the new state map is still in court, Governor Umo Eno urged the communities to remain calm and maintain peace, stating that “I came here today as a man of peace and I speak peace in this land, that the people of Eket, Esit Eket, and Ibeno must accept peace and peace will return to these communities.”

Governor Umo Eno’s decisive actions and strong stance against the communal clash in Akwa Ibom demonstrate his commitment to peace and security in the region.

The affected communities are encouraged to heed the Governor’s call for unity and work together to resolve their differences.
