Governor Aiyedatiwa Declares Public Holiday in Ondo State for Late Governor Akeredolu’s Funeral

Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State declared Thursday, 22nd and Friday, 23rd of February 2024, as public holidays in the state.

The decision was made to honor the late former Governor of the State, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Odunayo Akeredolu, who passed away in December 2023.

According to a statement released by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Prince Ebenezer Adeniyan, the two work-free days will allow the people of the state to participate in the burial activities of the former governor.

The funeral rites will commence with the Ajabue traditional rite in his hometown of Owo on Wednesday, February 21.

The late Akeredolu, who served as the Governor of Ondo State from 2013 to 2023, was a prominent figure in the state’s political landscape.

His tenure saw significant developments in various sectors, including education, healthcare, and infrastructure.

The two-day public holiday in the state will give residents the opportunity to pay their respects to the late Governor Akeredolu and reflect on his contributions to the state.

The funeral activities will also include a special court session, a lying-in-state and commendation service at the Akure Township Stadium, and an evening of tributes at Saint Andrews Church in Owo.
