FUNAAB to Transform Soyinka’s Residence into World-Class Research Center

The Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) has announced its ambitious plan to convert the residence of Nobel laureate Prof. Wole Soyinka in Ijegba, Abeokuta, into a world-class library and writers’ research haven.

The university’s Vice Chancellor, Prof. Olusola Kehinde, shared the vision, emphasizing the need to revive the declining reading culture among young Nigerians.

The project aims to preserve Soyinka’s legacy and provide a conducive environment for students, researchers, and writers to engage with the literary works of the renowned playwright and poet.

The proposed research center will house a vast collection of Soyinka’s works, as well as other literary materials, and will be equipped with state-of-the-art facilities to support research and creative endeavors.

Prof. Kehinde expressed concern over the dwindling interest in reading among young people and believes that the establishment of such a research center will inspire a new generation of readers and writers.

The center is expected to foster a vibrant literary community, hosting workshops, seminars, and other events to promote the development of literary talent.

The project is a testament to the university’s commitment to promoting education, culture, and intellectual growth.

The transformation of Soyinka’s residence into a research center will not only honor the Nobel laureate’s remarkable contributions to literature but also serve as a beacon of hope for the future of Nigeria’s literary scene.

As the project progresses, the university will collaborate with various stakeholders, including government agencies, private organizations, and literary enthusiasts, to ensure the successful completion of this ambitious initiative.

The proposed research center is poised to become a significant landmark, attracting scholars and writers from around the world and contributing to the cultural and intellectual landscape of Nigeria.
