Fire Incident Leaves 120 Homeless in Ilorin

Ilorin, Kwara State, Nigeria – A devastating fire incident occurred on January 15, 2024, in Megida Onikanhun Compound, Edun Isale, Ilorin South Local Government Area, leaving 120 people homeless and destroying 44 rooms of a building and a mosque.

The fire, which started in the early hours of the morning, quickly spread through the ancient compound and the market in the area.

Despite the swift response of the Kwara State Fire Service, the raging fire lasted for more than an hour before it was finally put out.

According to a statement by the Head of Media and Publicity of the state Fire Service, Hassan Adekunle, no one was injured in the fire, but four aged people were evacuated from the house by some good Samaritans.

It is believed that a refuse dump started the fire, which spread quickly due to the dry weather and strong winds.

The incident has caused a great deal of distress and suffering for the affected families, who have lost their homes and possessions.

The Kwara State Government has promised to provide immediate assistance to the victims of the fire, including temporary shelter and relief materials.

The government has also called on well-meaning individuals and organizations to come to the aid of the affected families.

This tragic incident serves as a reminder of the importance of fire safety and the need to take precautions to prevent such disasters from happening in the future.
