FG launches CNG conversion centre in Kaduna

As part of the Federal Government’s effort to mitigate the effect of subsidy removal, the Presidential Compressed Natural Gas Initiative has launched the Kaduna State CNG conversion centre. The centre will enable conventional gasoline vehicles to be converted into compressed natural gas-powered vehicles.

The Chairman of the Presidential CNG Initiative Steering Committee, Zacch Adedeji, said at the launch event in Kaduna over the weekend that the CNG conversion site was a sign of Nigeria’s commitment to transitioning to cleaner and more affordable energy solutions.

He said, “The conversion will not only lower the operating cost for vehicle owners but also help to reduce carbon emissions significantly.

“Today, we are making history on a journey towards a more sustainable, affordable, and eco-friendly future. The Renewed Hope administration is determined to push the frontiers of innovation and environmental responsibility.

“The CNG conversation site reflects our commitment to bringing about an energy revolution that connects the future with the present. We understand that affordable energy is essential, and CNG is the solution. It offers a more economical alternative to traditional gasoline, making it a sensible choice for consumers and businesses alike.”

The Programme Director, P-CNGi, Michael Oluwagbemi, also said that the CNG is safe and affordable for the Nigerian people and would provide cleaner, cost-effective, and environmentally conscious energy solutions.

He said, “But let us not forget, this is not only about Kaduna; it is about a nation and a world that are increasingly aware of the need for cleaner, more affordable energy.

“Today, we are standing at the edge of history in the heart of Kaduna, where the vision for a sustainable, affordable, and eco-friendly energy future is about to become a reality. This launch event is not just the start of a new CNG conversion centre; it is the culmination of a journey that began with the commissioning of centres in Lagos and Abuja.”
