Federal University of Education Bill Advances in Senate: A Step Towards Educational Progress in Nigeria

For Nigeria’s educational landscape, a bill establishing the Federal University of Education in Numan, Adamawa State, has recently passed a second reading in the Senate.

The bill, which was initially passed in the 9th Senate but was not assented to by former President Muhammadu Buhari, has now been brought back for reconsideration.

Sponsored by Senator Binos Dauda Yaroe, the bill aims to further develop the society by establishing a dedicated institution to train human resources that will contribute to the country’s development.

The Senator emphasized that the university would be “to train the trainers,” focusing on producing qualified individuals who will be instrumental in the education sector, not only in Adamawa but across the nation.

Senator Abdul Ningi of Bauchi Central Senatorial District has also supported the bill, highlighting the importance of the university in producing much-needed manpower resources for the North East Nigeria.

He pointed out that Numan, being one of the oldest emirates, has not had a federal presence, making this an opportune moment to establish the university.

Senator Godiya Akwashiki of Nasarawa North Senatorial District argued that the Senate has a tradition of approving bills that were previously not assented to due to time constraints.

After receiving overwhelming support from other Senators, Senate President Godswill Akpabio passed the bill for a second reading and referred it to the Senate Committee on Education and Tertiary Institutions for further consideration.

The establishment of the Federal University of Education in Numan, if approved, would not only bring a federal presence to the region but also contribute to the overall development of Nigeria’s education sector.

The university would play a crucial role in providing quality education and training to individuals who will go on to shape the future of the nation.
