FCT Minister Wike Pushes for Smart City Transformation in Abuja

In an Annual Media Retreat of the FCT Minister’s Press Corps in Keffi, Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike emphasized the importance of transforming Abuja into a smart city.

The event, themed “Building an Environment that Benefits a Smart City. Healthy Café: A Step Towards Effective City Management,” highlighted the FCTA’s commitment to creating a sustainable and healthy environment for its residents.

Wike stressed that the concept of a smart city is not just an ambitious vision but an essential step towards ensuring sustainable urban development and an enhanced quality of life for its inhabitants.

He mentioned the integration of technology, innovation, and strategic planning as key components of this transformation.

The minister also highlighted the FCTA’s efforts to prioritize health and well-being through initiatives such as accessible green spaces, efficient waste management, sustainable transport systems, and promoting a healthy lifestyle.

Wike called on residents to fulfill their civic duties, including timely payment of taxes and adhering to basic rules, while the FCTA works to meet its obligations to the residents.

He expressed concern over the violations of traffic rules and emphasized that such actions would no longer be tolerated.

The Executive Secretary of the Federal Capital Development Authority, Mr. Shehu Ahmad, announced plans to review the Abuja Master Plan to integrate current realities in the ongoing development of the city.

The Chairman of the Corps, Mr. Hudu Yakubu, emphasized the crucial role of the media in fostering community engagement towards building a smart city.

The media is expected to educate the public on sustainable practices, technological advancement, and civic responsibility in the journey towards building a smart city.

The FCT Minister’s push for transforming Abuja into a smart city showcases the importance of sustainable development, technology, and innovation in urban planning.
