“This still feels surreal. My brother and I standing here today isn’t a reflection of being the most deserving or most diligent students; far from it. But for some reason, we are here.”

In an extraordinary academic milestone, twin brothers Matthew and Matthias Busoye have graduated with identical First-Class Honours and a CGPA of 3.94 out of 4.00 from the Department of Electronic and Electrical Engineering, University of Ibadan (UI), making history as the best graduating students in the Faculty of Technology for the 2023/2024 academic session.

The brilliant duo didn’t just shine academically — they also left strong leadership footprints. Matthew served as President of the Society of Electrical and Electronic Engineering Students (SEEEES-UI) while Matthias held the position of Speaker of the 11th Assembly of the UI Students’ Representative Council.

Their academic consistency was nothing short of remarkable, with both maintaining top CGPAs throughout their five-year program. From 3.84 and 3.89 in 100 level to a matching 3.94 CGPA at 500 level, the brothers climbed in near-perfect synchrony.

Sharing the news on X.com, Matthias recounted their rigorous academic journey, highlighting both excellence and personal growth. Matthew, who delivered the induction speech as the faculty’s best graduating student, reflected in his address:

“This still feels surreal. My brother and I standing here today isn’t a reflection of being the most deserving or most diligent students; far from it. But for some reason, we are here.”

The Society of Electrical and Electronic Engineering Students (SEEEES) formally recognized their stellar performance with special honours during the induction ceremony. A heartwarming moment captured from the event showed their mother praying over them, holding their hands tightly in celebration.

The twins’ story has gone viral, resonating as a powerful reminder that discipline, unity, and purpose-driven hard work can produce incredible outcomes — in double measure.
