EPL: Manchester City thrash United 3-0 in derby as Haaland scores twice

With a 3-0 win at Old Trafford on Sunday, Manchester City proved their dominance over their local rivals, Manchester United. The visitors were in control of the game from the first whistle to the last, with Erling Haaland netting two goals and Phil Foden scoring the third.

Haaland broke the deadlock in the 26th minute from the spot after Rodri was brought down by Rasmus Hojlund in the area. The Norwegian forward calmly slotted the ball into the bottom-right corner, leaving Andre Onana no chance.

Haaland added his second goal in the 49th minute with a close-range header after a superb cross from Bernardo Silva on the left flank. The Portuguese playmaker had linked up well with Jack Grealish, who had gotten a diagonal pass from Rodri.

Foden wrapped up the win in the 80th minute with a simple finish from Haaland’s pass after Onana had failed to hold on to a fierce shot from Rodri. The local lad celebrated his goal with the City fans, who were ecstatic with their team’s display.

City boss Pep Guardiola commended his players for their impressive performances and singled out Haaland for his deadly finishing. He said, “It was a great performance from the team. We controlled the game and created many chances. Haaland is a fantastic player. He is always in the right position, and he is very calm in front of the goal. He is a joy to work with.”

United manager Tem Haag conceded that his team was second best to City and apologised to the fans for the poor result. He said, “We have to accept that we were not good enough today. The city was better than us in every aspect. We have to improve a lot if we want to compete with them. I’m sorry for the fans who came to support us. They deserve better.”
