Enugu State Government on Sunday held Transition Thanksgiving Mass for Enugu Governor-elect, Dr Peter Mbah and his Deputy, Ifeanyi Ossai, at the Holy Ghost Cathedral, Enugu.

In same Mass Service, Gov. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi and his Deputy, Mrs Cecilia Ezeilo is thanking God for successful eight years of service to Enugu people.

The Mass was officiated by the catholic bishops of Enugu, Nsukka and Awgu dioceses, Callistus Onaga, Igwebuike Onah and Ifeanyichukwu Okoye respectively as well as Bishop Emeritus of Enugu, Anthony Gbuji and Auxiliary Bishop of Enugu, Bishop Ernest Obodo.

During the beginning of the Mass, Bishop Onaga said the thanksgiving Mass coincided with the celebration of Pentecost Sunday which he described as very big celebration for the cathedral.

He thanked Gov. Ugwuanyi for choosing Mbah as his successor.

In his homily, Monsignor Ike Obiora urged the politicians to always stand on the part of light, truth and service when dealing with the people they govern.

He regretted that some of them made themselves champions against light and truth, urging them to emulate early missionaries who came and transformed the whole nation.

According to him, politicians should empower their subjects to bring about the desired transformation.

“The missionaries built churches and schools, today many of the politicians in Enugu State are beneficiaries of them.

“Gov. Ugwuanyi and Okwesilieze Nwodo went to St. Theresa’s College, Nsukka, Sullivan Chime to College of Immaculate Conception (CIC) Enugu, and others to Christ the King College.

“They never went to community schools and it is stupidity and foolishness that will make politicians to steal money meant for infrastructural development and the youths they neglected kidnaps them and they pay ransome of N10 million,” he said.

Monsignor Ike said the youth engaged in the act because the system denied them opportunities and other fundamental essence of life.

He lauded Gov. Ugwuanyi for the enthronement of peace and security in the state, stressing that Enugu was the safest state in the Southeast.

The church service was attended by Gov. Ugwuanyi, Ezeilo, Mbah, Ossai and their wives.

Speaker of Enugu State House of Assembly, Mr Edward Ubosi, Chief Judge of Enugu, Justice Raymond Ozoemena, President, Customary Court of Appeal, Enugu, Justice Chibueze Nnamani also attended.
