Emir Sanusi II Speaks on Kano Emirate Tussle, Emphasizes Unity and History Preservation

The 16th Emir of Kano, Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi II, has addressed the ongoing emirate tussle in Kano State, emphasizing the importance of unity and the preservation of the emirate's history.

In an interview with Saturday Sun, Sanusi discussed the challenges faced by the beneficiaries of the former emirate system and the necessity of restoring the original order.

Sanusi acknowledged that the beneficiaries of the emirate division, including Emir Aminu Ado Bayero, feel hurt by the recent developments.

He explained that the creation of new emirates by the previous governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, had disrupted the emirate's historical structure and caused divisions within the royal family.

The Emir highlighted that the new emirates, such as the Kano Emirate with eight local governments, had no historical precedent in the emirate's one thousand years of history.

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, who recently reinstated Sanusi, has taken steps to restore the original order and protect the emirate's history and custom.

Sanusi emphasized that the restoration of the Kano Emirate is not targeted at any individual or family but is aimed at preserving the emirate's historical integrity.

He called on all citizens of Kano, including members of the royal family, to support the governor's efforts to restore the emirate's glory.

The Emir's remarks come amid a legal battle between Emir Bayero and Governor Yusuf.

Yusuf deposed Bayero, who then filed a lawsuit against the governor to have the law annulling his deposition and restoration as Sanusi.

The Kano Emirate tussle has caused tensions within the state, with both Emirs laying claim to the throne. As the legal proceedings continue, the focus remains on preserving the emirate's history and finding a resolution that respects the emirate's traditions and unity.
