Edo Gubernatorial Election: INEC Issues Warning Against Premature Campaigning

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Edo State has cautioned aspirants and political parties to refrain from engaging in premature campaigning for the upcoming gubernatorial election.

The Resident Electoral Commissioner, Anugbum Onuoha, issued this warning during a press conference in Benin on Monday.

According to Onuoha, the commission has not lifted the suspension on campaigning, and any party or candidate found in violation of this directive will face appropriate sanctions.

The Edo State gubernatorial election is scheduled to take place on September 21, 2024, and the commission is keen to ensure a level playing field for all participants.

The warning comes as a reminder that the electoral body is committed to upholding the integrity of the electoral process and ensuring that all parties adhere to the rules and regulations governing the conduct of elections.

It is also a clear signal that the commission will not tolerate any form of electoral malpractice or manipulation.

As the race for Edo State’s top seat heats up, it is imperative for all stakeholders to comply with the directives of the electoral commission to ensure a free, fair, and credible election.

The people of Edo State deserve a transparent and accountable electoral process that will enable them to elect leaders who will serve their best interests.
