Ebonyi Government Recruits 2,600 Forest Guards to Combat Insecurity

Aimed at bolstering security measures in the state, the Ebonyi Government has recruited 2,600 youths as forest guards to support the fight against insecurity.

The announcement was made by the State Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Mr. Jude Okpor, during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

The newly recruited forest guards will serve under the Nigerian Hunters and Forest Security Service (NHFSS), with 200 individuals selected from each of the 13 Local Government Areas (LGAs) in Ebonyi State.

This initiative comes in response to the growing concern over criminal activities that often originate from forests, as criminals use these areas as hideouts to launch attacks on innocent people.

Mr. Okpor emphasized that the recruitment aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s recent meeting with state governors to discuss insecurity and the establishment of state police.

The forestry security outfit is considered a crucial component of the state police, which was a major point of discussion during the meeting.

The state Commander of the NHFSS, Mr. Larry Igwe, has welcomed the recruitment, stating that it will enhance their capacity to combat criminal elements hiding in forests and further strengthen their collaboration with other security agencies such as the Police, Army, and other sister agencies.

With the recruitment of these 2,600 forest guards, the Ebonyi Government aims to create a safer environment for its citizens and effectively tackle the security challenges the state faces.

This proactive measure is expected to make a significant impact in curbing criminal activities and ensuring the safety of residents.
