A nonagenarian, Mrs Lady Basikoro, has been installed as the Okpako Ewheya (Oldest Married Woman) of Edjophe Community in Ughievwen Kingdom, Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State, in a colourful ceremony that drew wide participation from across the community.
The historic event, held on Saturday, March 14, 2026, drew a large turnout of family members, community leaders, and married women, who gathered to celebrate the revered matriarch’s new status.
Mrs. Basikoro’s emergence is widely regarded as both symbolic and historic, given her strong family lineage and enduring legacy. Her mother once held the same title in Usiefrun Community, while her late husband, Pa. Robert Basikoro Eshah, was the Okpako Orere (Oldest Man) of Edjophe until his passing in 1994.
Despite losing her husband decades ago, Mrs. Basikoro has remained a respected figure in the community, known for her steadfast commitment to family values and her enduring role as a matriarch. She is also the mother of notable personalities, including former Assistant National Secretary of NUPENG, Comrade Godwin Basikoro, Edward Basikoro, Tony Basikoro of BATOP Conglomerates, and social media influencer, Comrade Sunny Basikoro.
The installation ceremony was marked by music, cultural displays, and entertainment, with Sir Difference and his group providing live performances, while DJs kept the atmosphere lively. MC Toomuch D Comedian, Okotokpo, and Avwolokpamuo compered the event.
Residents described the occasion as a moment of pride and unity for Edjophe, celebrating not just age but a lifetime of virtue, resilience, and community service.
The ceremony concluded with appreciation to all who contributed through prayers, moral support, and financial assistance toward its success.
