ECOWAS Chair, President Tinubu, Addresses Key Regional Issues at Extraordinary Summit

President Tinubu emphasized the need for unity and commitment to the well-being of the people in the region.

He acknowledged the complexities of the issues at hand and called for a comprehensive and collaborative approach to finding enduring solutions for sustainable peace, security, and political stability.

The Summit also focused on the announced withdrawal of Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger from ECOWAS.

President Tinubu stressed the importance of ensuring that the citizens of these countries are not denied the benefits derived from regional integration initiatives.

Another key topic of discussion was the recent decision by the Constitutional Council of Senegal to annul the postponement of the electoral process.

President Tinubu commended President Macky Sall for agreeing to abide by the Court’s decision and his commitment to the rule of law.

President Tinubu highlighted the importance of regional integration, democracy, and human rights as essential elements for fostering sustainable development across all member states.

He urged member states to re-consider their decision to exit their home and not to perceive the organization as the enemy.

President Tinubu expressed confidence that through collective efforts and determination, the challenges faced by the sub-region could be overcome, and a more peaceful, secure, and prosperous West Africa could be achieved.
