Despite AFCON Heartbreak: BUA Boss, Rabiu Honours $500,000 Super Eagles Pledge

Billionaire industrialist and Chairman of BUA Group, Abdul Samad Rabiu, has confirmed he will honour his $500,000 pledge to the Super Eagles despite Nigeria’s failure to win the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Rabiu announced on Thursday via his official Instagram page, where he commended the national team for their resilience, courage and fighting spirit throughout the tournament.

Praising the players for their commitment, Rabiu said the team gave Nigerians reason to be proud, even though the ultimate prize eluded them.

“You fought with your hearts, gave your all, and showed true courage and determination on the pitch. Though it wasn’t meant to be this time, you have made every Nigerian proud,” he wrote.

The BUA chairman noted that success is not always measured by trophies, stressing that the unity, passion and character displayed by the team mattered just as much.

“Sometimes, even our best efforts don’t bring the outcome we hope for, but the spirit and unity you displayed are worthy of celebration,” he added.

He said the $500,000 reward would be paid as recognition of the players’ dedication, sacrifice and the joy they brought to Nigerians during the tournament.

Rabiu had earlier pledged the cash incentive ahead of AFCON to motivate the team in their quest for continental glory.

The Super Eagles reached the latter stages of the competition but fell short after losing 4–2 on penalties to host nation Morocco following a goalless draw in the semi-final at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium.

Encouraging the players to remain focused, Rabiu expressed confidence that the experience gained would translate into greater success in future tournaments.
