The Delta State Commissioner for Youth Development, and Chairman, Awareness Creation Committee for Enlistment into Military and Paramilitary Services in Delta State, Barr. Trakiriowei Harry ThankGod, has said that more youths are being enlisted into Nigeria's military and paramilitary services, facilitated by the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA), Direct Short Service, and regular recruitment intakes.

This increase, he said can be attributed to the intensified awareness efforts led by the Delta State Awareness Creation Committee for Enlistment, which he chairs.

Speaking in Asaba on Monday, Barr. ThankGod welcomed newly commissioned Second Lieutenant Oghenekohwo Omarayen from the Nigerian Army’s Field Engineer Regiment, Topo Badagry, Lagos. He emphasized that Omarayen’s visit is expected to inspire more Delta youths to consider military careers, adding that state governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, is actively monitoring the committee’s progress through the Secretary to the State Government to encourage more Delta youths to prioritize NDA in their Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) selections.

The Commissioner noted that the committee has amplified its media presence and enlisted support from traditional rulers, local council leaders, the National Youth Council, faith-based organizations, and the Delta State Orientation and Communications Bureau. These efforts aim to significantly boost youth recruitment into Nigeria’s armed forces and other paramilitary bodies.

“We have made considerable progress and will continue to build on this momentum to increase the number of qualified Delta youths enlisting in the Nigerian Police Force, DSS, Customs, Immigration, and other services,” Barr. ThankGod said, adding that the committee’s achievements align with Governor Oborevwori’s mandate to promote military careers for state youth.

In his address, Dr. Fred Latimore Oghenesivbe, Director-General of the Delta State Orientation and Communications Bureau, reinforced the governor’s commitment to filling every slot allocated to Delta with qualified candidates. He emphasized the benefits of military and paramilitary careers, noting the stability of full-time, pensionable employment, with educational advancement opportunities fully funded by the services.

Delta youths were encouraged to apply online for the Nigerian Army’s ongoing 88th Regular Recruit Intake via https://recruitment.army.mil.ng, a process that is both straightforward and free of charge.

Second Lieutenant Omarayen, a graduate of the NDA, expressed gratitude for Governor Oborevwori’s support to Delta State students at the academy and urged Delta youths to seize these opportunities in the military and paramilitary fields, which offer valuable pathways to serve the nation.
