The Delta State Government has called on opposition figures in the State to exhibit patriotism by recognizing the significant developmental strides of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s administration instead of peddling misinformation.

The government warned that it would not allow opposition politicians to distort facts and mislead the public about the ongoing transformation across the state.

State Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Mr. Charles Aniagwu, made this known at a press conference in Asaba on Monday. Flanked by the Executive Assistant to the Governor on New Media, Mr. Felix Ofou, Aniagwu stressed that some politicians, having previously held high positions in government, should engage constructively rather than spreading false narratives.

He was responding to claims made by opposition figure in the state, the former Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege during a visit to Bomadi and Burutu Local Government Areas of the state, where he alleged neglect by the state government. Dismissing the accusations, Aniagwu urged the opposition to "show some element of patriotism" by acknowledging what the government is doing rather than distorting facts.

“As part of keeping them busy, we need to give them more information so that, at the very least, they have something to engage with rather than spewing lies here and there," Aniagwu remarked. "Governor Oborevwori has continued to reply to critics with verifiable projects in health, education, roads, agriculture, and human capital development across the three senatorial districts."

He went on to highlight key infrastructure projects, including the Ughelli-Asaba Road, which cuts across the state, the Ohoror-Bomadi Road (47km), and the recently approved Bomadi-Gbaregolor Road (18.6km). In Burutu, work is ongoing on the Okontu-Ogulaha Road (12.5km), while Warri South-West is witnessing progress on Benikrukru, Okerenkoko, and Kokodiagbene internal roads. The Trans-Warri-Ode-Itsekiri Road and bridges are also under construction, with a dedicated funding mechanism ensuring steady progress.

In Delta North, Aniagwu listed numerous road projects, including the Eweshi-Utagba-Uno Road, the Ndemili-Utagba-Uno Road, and the Amai-Aragba Road, as well as critical interventions in the education and health sectors. He emphasized that the Beneku Bridge in Ndokwa East, which has replaced the long-standing pontoon crossing at Asse Creek, is one of several projects demonstrating the administration’s commitment to improving lives.

"We just needed to give this information so that our brothers can read and know what is happening," Aniagwu stated. "When next they go out, they should find better areas to focus on rather than continuing in error."

The Commissioner also dismissed claims that PDP has neglected certain parts of the state, pointing out that some of those making such allegations had previously held key government positions. "When someone says nothing has happened in the last 25 years, they forget they were part of those years. If they believe nothing was done, then they are scoring themselves poorly. But that is their personal failure, not that of the state," he remarked.

Aniagwu reiterating that Delta is on a path of steady development and warned against illegal mining at Ugbolu Heights and other areas, citing the dangers of environmental degradation. "Those engaging in illegal mining should desist immediately or risk arrest," he warned.

With numerous ongoing projects across the state, the government maintains that critics should focus on constructive engagement rather than misleading the public for political gain.
