A hotel in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State, 'Big Dafe Hotel' has debunked allegations that it’s a hub for human trafficking and child prostitution, and urged the public to disregard the reports in a section of the media.
The hotel's owner, Mr. Dafe Kpohraror, has vehemently denied the claims, stated that Big Dafe Hotel is a registered establishment with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) of Nigeria and it’s known for providing lodging and accommodation services in Delta State for many years.
Addressing the recent police invasion and the arrest of guests and lodgers at his hotel, Mr. Kpohraror clarified that his hotel is not involved in any illegal activities.
"I conduct daily routine checks in the hotel," Mr. Kpohraror explained. "On Thursday, July 12, 2024, I discovered three unfamiliar faces on the premises and immediately questioned them. Unsatisfied with their explanations, I instructed my security personnel to escort them out of the hotel."
He expressed shock at the subsequent police raid, stating, "I was shocked to hear that policeman invaded one of my hotels and arrested guests and lodgers. To set the record straight, Big Dafe Hotel is not a center for human trafficking or child prostitution. It is solely known for lodging and accommodation."
Recall that the police raid occurred on July 15, 2024, conducted by officers from the Ekpan and Ebrumede divisions of the Delta State Command, resulting in the arrest of staff, guests, and lodgers on suspicion of human trafficking and child prostitution.
Mr. Kpohraror further disclosed that, according to the hotel's records, the three teenagers in question were not registered guests. He emphasized that the hotel management adheres strictly to the regulations governing hotel operations in the state.
While commending Delta State Commissioner of Police, Aniwonda Olufemi, for his zero-tolerance stance on human trafficking and child prostitution, Mr. Kpohraror maintained that Big Dafe Hotel is not associated with any such activities. He also distanced the hotel management from any alleged involvement of Chinyere (surname withheld) in human trafficking or child prostitution.
"We fully support the efforts to eradicate human trafficking and child prostitution," Mr. Kpohraror concluded. "Big Dafe Hotel remains committed to operating within the legal framework and ensuring the safety and comfort of our guests."
