Delta govt setups a judicial panel to look into land, security issues in Ogwashi-Uku

The Delta State Government has approved the setting up of a judicial commission to investigate land disputes and security challenges within Ogwashi-Uku Kingdom.

This decision comes after concerns raised by the Obi of Ogwashi-Uku, along with other community members, about ongoing security issues and land-related conflicts.

In a temporary measure, the state government has directed the Obi of Ogwashi-Uku to assume direct control over boundary and satellite communities, including those overseen by the Okwabani chiefs. This directive will remain in effect until the commission concludes its investigation within sixty days.

Prince Ifeakanachukwu Emordi, the Palace Secretary to the Obi of Ogwashi-Uku, welcomed the government’s decision. He expressed full support for the initiative and assured the governor that the directive would be implemented effectively.

Prince Emordi also issued a stern warning against land grabbing, emphasizing that anyone found causing disruptions would face immediate referral to the police for investigation and prosecution.

In addition to addressing land and security matters, the judicial commission will also review the contentious Iyase Chieftaincy title. The commission's findings are expected to provide clarity and resolution to the ongoing issues in the region.
