The chairmen of Isoko South and Isoko North Local Government Areas of Delta State, Hon. Friday Ovoke Warri and Hon. Godwin Ogorugba, have called for unity, love, and peace among the people of the Isoko Nation. They emphasized that meaningful development can only be achieved in an atmosphere of harmony and mutual understanding.
The appeal was made during a strategic meeting held on Monday at the office of the Isoko South council chairman in Oleh. The meeting aimed to strengthen the bond between the two local government areas and foster collaboration for the region’s progress.
The chairmen urged community leaders, particularly the president generals of communities in Isoko South and Isoko North, to promote peaceful coexistence and unity among Isoko people. They stressed that peace is a key factor in attracting greater investments in infrastructure and social amenities from Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s administration, which prioritizes peaceful governance.
Hon. Warri and Hon. Ogorugba commended the community president generals for their dedication to leadership and their role in unifying the Isoko Nation. They also pledged their commitment to strengthening grassroots governance and fostering a cohesive Isoko community.
During the meeting, community president generals advocated for the rotational leadership of the Isoko Development Union (IDU) Youth Wing to ensure inclusivity and prevent conflicts. Speaking on this, the president general of the Irri Federated Union, Adonis Ubuwere, highlighted that the rotational presidency principle, established on December 25, 2019, alternates three-year leadership tenures between Isoko South and Isoko North.
The gathering unanimously called on the IDU President General, Chief Chris Akpotu, to set up an electoral committee to conduct free and fair elections for the IDU Youth Wing by December 15, 2024.
The president generals agreed that the rotational presidency of the IDU Youth Wing should remain in place to ensure equitable representation and maintain peace and unity within the Isoko Nation. The council chairmen reaffirmed their commitment to supporting initiatives that promote unity and progress in the region.
