The Chairman of Isoko South Local Government Area, Delta State, Friday Ovoke Warri, has called on members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) to actively engage in Community Development Service (CDS) and contribute meaningfully to the development of their host communities.
Warri made the statement on Thursday while commissioning two projects initiated by an NYSC member, George Godwin Nwankwo, at St. Michael’s College, Oleh, the headquarters of Isoko South. The projects include a water-jacking water pump and a newly constructed volleyball court.
The council chairman praised Nwankwo for his dedication to grassroots development, describing the projects as a testament to the positive impact of the NYSC scheme. He also assured that his administration remains committed to implementing people-oriented initiatives to improve the welfare of rural communities.
“NYSC members must see Community Development Service as an opportunity to give back to society and rekindle hope at the grassroots. Projects like these encourage the government to do more and inspire others to follow suit,” Warri said.
He reiterated his administration’s commitment to community-focused projects under his vision, “Warri, for your worries,” which prioritizes the welfare of residents across the local government area.
In his remarks, NYSC member George Nwankwo, with state code DT/24A/1333, expressed gratitude to the council chairman for his unwavering support. He explained that the water pump and volleyball court were designed to improve infrastructure at St. Michael’s College, enhancing both academic and extracurricular activities for students.
“The goal of these projects is to contribute positively to the academic performance and overall development of the students. I thank the council chairman for his support and commitment to uplifting the lives of rural dwellers,” Nwankwo said.
A staff member of St. Michael’s College commended Nwankwo for his initiative and noted that the volleyball court would expose students to more sporting activities beyond football. The staff member also thanked the council chairman for his two-million-naira donation and for taking time to commission the projects.
Chairman Warri encouraged other NYSC members to emulate Nwankwo’s commitment and assured that his administration would continue to complement efforts aimed at enhancing community development in the area.
