Defense Minister Reaffirms Ban on Unauthorized Use of Camouflage to Combat Criminal Activities

The Minister of State for Defence, Dr. Bello Muhammed Matawalle, has reaffirmed the ban on unauthorized use of military camouflage, citing concerns over the increase in criminals using camouflage to disguise themselves as military and paramilitary personnel.

The Minister’s call comes in response to the growing issue of criminal activities in the country.

According to a statement released by the Ministry of Defence, only the Armed Forces and the Nigeria Police Force are allowed by law to use military camouflage while on joint operations.

The statement emphasized that other security and paramilitary agencies are strictly prohibited from using camouflage uniforms.

Dr. Matawalle stressed the need to streamline the personnel authorized to use military camouflage, stating that the ban on other paramilitary agencies from using camouflage uniforms is aimed at bringing sanity to the system and combating criminal activities.

The National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, has issued a directive for the immediate cessation of the use of camouflage uniforms by paramilitary agencies.

This directive was supported by the Minister, who emphasized the readiness of the Nigeria Armed Forces and the Nigeria Police to enforce the ban.
