Cross River University Alumni Demands Dissolution of Governing Council

The University of Cross River State Alumni Association has called on Governor Bassey Otu to dissolve the institution’s governing council, citing incompetence and the council’s inability to attract funds and projects to the university.
This demand comes after a National Executive Council (NEC) meeting on April 24, 2024, where members expressed their concerns about the council’s negative impact on the university’s finances and staff welfare.
The Alumni Association has directed its legal team to take immediate action to halt further funding of the governing council’s activities and claims, while also urging Governor Otu to reconstitute the council with individuals who understand the workings of the university system and can contribute positively to the institution’s growth.
During the NEC meeting, the Alumni Association emphasized the need for the governing council to respect the laws governing the university and accused the council of not serving the institution’s best interests.
The council has been in place since June 6, 2020, but has failed to attract any funds or projects to the university, instead, it has been criticized for drawing unnecessary allowances that put a strain on the university’s finances.
In light of these concerns, the Alumni Association has called on Governor Otu to take swift action to dissolve the governing council and appoint new members who can better serve the university’s needs.
They expressed their hope that the governor would take their concerns into consideration and work towards implementing policies that would benefit the institution and its staff.
This situation highlights the importance of having a governing council that is both competent and dedicated to the welfare of the university and its stakeholders.
The Cross River University Alumni Association is determined to ensure that the institution receives the support and resources it needs to thrive and provide quality education to its students.
