Covenant University Retains Top Spot in Nigeria’s Best Universities List for 2024

Covenant University has once again secured the title of Nigeria’s best university for the second consecutive time in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings for 2024.

The university, based in Ota, Ogun State, has also been ranked among the top 1,000 universities globally.

The latest ranking, released on Thursday, places Covenant University at 801st in the world, maintaining its prominence after first achieving the best university in Nigeria in 2018.

The University of Ibadan and the Federal University of Technology, Akure, follow Covenant as the second- and third-best universities in Nigeria, respectively.

The Times Higher Education World University Rankings for 2024 include 1,904 universities across 108 countries and regions, with carefully calibrated performance indicators that measure an institution’s performance across five areas: teaching, research environment, research quality, industry, and international outlook.

Other universities that made the top rankings in Nigeria include the University of Ilorin, the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, Afe Babalola University, the University of Benin, the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Lagos State University, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Obafemi Awolowo University, and the University of Port Harcourt.

Out of the 15 top-ranked universities in Nigeria, nine are located in the South West, two in the South East, two in the South-South, one in the North West, and one in the North Central.
