Covenant University's performance demonstrates Nigeria's growing influence in global academia, signaling a positive trend for the country’s research and educational output.
For the second consecutive year, Covenant University has been ranked as Nigeria's leading institution in the 2024 Times Higher Education World University Rankings. This global ranking, which assesses universities based on comprehensive performance metrics, again positioned the Ota-based university ahead of other top Nigerian institutions, solidifying its reputation in higher education excellence.
The 2024 rankings evaluated 1,907 universities across 108 countries using 18 performance indicators in five core areas: teaching, research environment, research quality, industry outcomes, and international outlook. Covenant University outperformed the University of Ibadan, Federal University of Technology Akure, and the University of Lagos, which ranked second, third, and fourth, respectively.
This year’s assessment highlighted shifts within global higher education, with the rankings informed by an analysis of over 134 million citations from 16.5 million research publications and survey responses from 68,000 scholars worldwide.
Joining Covenant University in the top ten Nigerian institutions were Bayero University, University of Ilorin, University of Nigeria Nsukka, and Afe Babalola University, University of Benin and with Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta rounding out the list at tenth place.
