Catholic Priest vows to lead protest against those hampering development in Sapele

The Vicar of St Patrick Catholic Church in Sapele, Sapele Local Government Area in Delta State, Rev. Fr Christopher Ekabo, has condemned the act of negative criticism in the face of obvious performance by some politicians, saying that very soon, the public will have no choice than to protest against these ‘enemies of progress.’

Fr Ekabo, stated this during the presentation of awards to some people whom he said, has contributed to the recent development witnessed in the town, adding that, “Sapele was the second major city in Nigeria in 1922, that was why the missionaries established a church here, now where are the seaport, companies and those business opportunities that made Sapele thick?” he asked.

Some of the personalities who were given award during the Church Children’s harvest, include; the Delta State Peoples Democratic Party, PDP chairman, Barr Kingsley Esiso, Sapele Local Government Council Chairman, Chief Eugene Inoaghan, Former Chairman of Sapele Local Government Area, Barr Ejaife Odebala and four others.

Other awardees include; Barr Mike Egbune for his contribution to ensuring the town has a steady electricity supply, Dr Mrs Edward Carpe, for his free health care programme, Hon Austin Ayemidejor,  Mrs Phina Scari, and Hon Godwin Atose.

Ekabo said further that he was giving out awards to those who have contributed to the recent development in the ancient town, noting that since Esiso and Inoaghan assumed office, the spate of development in the town has been rapid.

“Before you assume office, Sapele use to be a land of potholes, but now, the story is different, the Sapele international market that was open after 12 years is an obvious sign things are getting better and the roads construction and renovation are another, continue to do your best and those who are against your good intentions will hear from us, soon, we will protest against them,” he added.
