BUK Students Stranded as SSANU and NASU Continue 7-Day Warning Strike

In the ongoing 7-day warning strike by the Joint Action Committee of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) and the Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU), the main gate of Bayero University Kano (BUK) was completely shut down, leaving students writing exams and other staff members stranded outside the university’s main entrance.

The decision to close the main gate of BUK was a part of the unions’ protest against the management, causing significant disruption to the academic activities of the university.

The strike has led to the unfortunate situation where some students missed their exams due to the closure of the gate.

Despite the challenges faced by the students and staff, the aggrieved parties later opened the gate, allowing some students to enter the university premises.

However, the damage had already been done, with many students missing their exams and the academic calendar thrown into disarray.

The strike by SSANU and NASU highlights the ongoing issues faced by the university’s non-academic staff, who are demanding better working conditions and improved welfare.

The unions have been in talks with the university management, but the negotiations have failed to yield any significant results, leading to the escalation of the strike.

The situation at BUK serves as a reminder of the importance of resolving labor disputes promptly and amicably to avoid disruptions to the education of students and the smooth functioning of the university.

As the strike continues, it remains to be seen how the university management will address the concerns of the striking unions and restore normalcy to the institution.
